A un mois de la fin du 2ème mandat du président de la République Tandja Mamadou conformément à la constitution de 1999, la tension est montée d’un cran à Niamey. Des milliers de militants de l’opposition regroupés au sein de la Coordination des Forces pour la Démocratie et la République ont battu le pavé pour demander la démission du président Tandja Mamadou, le 22 décembre prochain. Ils scandaient des slogans hostiles au régime qui a adopté une nouvelle constitution en août dernier. Sur des banderoles l’on peut lire, « Tandja doit partir », « nous ne voulons pas de votre constitution », « Assemblée Nationale Shap-Shap ».
Depuis la place Toumo où ils ont tenu un géant meeting le vice président du PNDS-Tarayya, Bazoum Mohamed a lu une déclaration dans laquelle il appelle à une mobilisation générale. « Ils nous appartient de nous mobiliser pour mettre fin à la restauration autocratique », a-t-il déclaré. L’opposition dénonce toujours le coup d’Etat constitutionnel orchestré par le régime depuis le référendum du 4 août dernier qui a prolongé le mandat du président de la République jusqu’en 2012.
Cependant, cette nième descente de l’opposition dans la rue ne changera rien à la position de Tandja et de ses partisans dans leur processus de la ‘’refondation’’ de la République. Ces derniers sont restés insensibles aux appels au retour à l’ordre constitutionnel de la Communauté internationale, notamment la CEDEAO et l’Union Européenne, et cela malgré les menaces des sanctions qui planent sur le Niger. En véritable homme fort, le président Tandja tient toujours tête à la Communauté internationale. Mais jusqu’à quand ?
En attendant les élections locales, il a quasiment bouclé son projet de ‘’refondation’’ de la République. L’assemblée Nationale est déjà installée.
